CJ SK Sinhas wife flies to Australia
Chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha's wife Sushma Sinha is flying to Australia to join her husband. She left Dhaka for Australia on Tuesday night. After three days her husband went there.
According to the immigration police source, a Singapore Airlines flight carrying her took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:55pm.
Earlier on October 13, the Chief Justice flew to Australia. Before leaving he dismissed the claims of his ill health as reported earlier.
He admitted that he was embarrassed at the criticism levelled at him by the prime minister, ministers, and political leadership over a verdict.
While leaving his Hare Road residence for the airport, the beleaguered chief justice revealed his position after the government claimed that the chief justice sought month-long leave on account of his illness and going abroad.
SK SInha also said he was going abroad on his own and will return home for the sake of country’s judiciary, expressing his anxiousness over “the independence of the judiciary”.
The following day, the Supreme Court's registrar general issued a press release which said that the president raised 11 allegations of corruption against CJ Sinha and that other judges of the Appellate Division declined to sit with him for delivering justice until the matters are settled.
Chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha and the ruling party leadership including the prime minister and the law minister were at loggerheads following the 16th amendment annulment verdict which scrapped parliament’s power to sack judges in July.
Several ministers met the chief justice and rumours had it that the chief justice would be sent on leave.
