At least six persons were killed and 12 others injured in a road accident in Chelerghat area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway here this morning.
Police identified four deceased as Sohel Mia, 35, hailed from Raghmara of Trishal, Jesmin Akhter, 30, from Dakshin Tetulia, Sirajul Islam, 28, hailed from Naopara abd Quamruzzaman Liton, 28 from Churkhai of Mymensingh Sadar.
But the identities of the rest two deceased were not known immediately.
“A Bhaluka bound passenger bus from Trishal hit a roadside stationary bus in the area at 7.30am before running over sixteen people who were trying to stop it for taking ride,” said Inspector (investigation) of Trishal Police Station Suman Chandra Roy.
The accident left three persons dead on the spot while one injured person died on the way to hospital and other two succumbed to their injuries at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee.
