Italy ready to engage with Syria, urges ‘maximum caution’: PM

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday her country was ready to engage with Syria’s new leadership after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad, but urged caution.

“Italy… is ready to engage with the new Syrian leadership” in cooperation with European and other international allies, she told parliament, adding: “The first signs seem encouraging, but maximum caution is needed.”
