Republican US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Monday crisis talks with Democratic President Joe Biden to avert a looming debt default had been “productive” — but revealed no deal had been struck.

“I felt we had a productive discussion. We don’t have an agreement yet, but I did feel the discussion was productive in areas (where) we have differences of opinion,” the top lawmaker told reporters as he emerged from the White House.
